4. UK Organisations
The Proclamation Trust:
The Proclamation Trust is based at
St Helen's Church in the heart of the City of London.
The fundamental conviction underlying the work of the Proclamation Trust is
that when the Bible is taught God's voice is heard. The main aim of the
Trust, therefore, is to teach the Bible to preachers in order that they can in
turn teach it to others. A further aim is to provide a fellowship of like-minded
evangelicals across denominational lines for encouragement in an exacting work.
The Trust holds the annual
Evangelical Ministry Assembly in June in London, at which international Bible
speakers can be heard, and other residential conferences for theological
students, lay preachers, minister's wives, younger ministers, women in ministry,
and others. For more details, including sales of audio and video tapes and CDs, consult
the website at www.proctrust.org.uk
The Cornhill Training Course
This is a branch of the work of the Proclamation Trust. It provides
a thorough grounding in the knowledge of the Bible and in expository
preaching/teaching. It is held at Willcox House, 140-148 Borough High Street.
London SE1 1LB. It can be taken over one year, attending four days a week, or
over two years attending two days a week. Wednesday is free for private study so
those students who have to travel need only stay overnight in London on Monday
and Thursday nights. For more
details visit the Proclamation Trust website.
The course is also provided in Sheffield in connection with Christ Church, Fulwood, Sheffield.
The
London Men's Convention was held for the first time in 2002 on April
20th in Central Hall Westminster. The 2,200 seats were a sell-out two months
before the event.
The purpose of the convention is to encourage
men to live for Christ, first by the encouragement of the Scriptures and second
by the fellowship of one another. The two plenary sessions were addressed by Richard Coekin and
Phillip Jensen. There were seminars during the early afternoon. It was by
general consent a great success.
The 2003/4 conventions were held in the
Albert Hall which was filled by 5,000 men and were deemed a great success. Watch the website
www.christianconventions.org.uk for details of future events.
The Convention has continued each year with packed audiances. A parallel convention for women was initiated in
2004 and details are available by links from the men's convention web site.
In 2004 the London Women's Christian Convention was launched (and in 2005 attracted 4,000 women) and in 2005 the Northern Women's Christian Convention began in Manchester. It continues each year with growing enthusiasm. For details go to www.christianconventions.org.uk
