OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH
and four principles on which this website is based
1. There is one God in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Each of the persons of the Godhead is truly and fully God: no person is more God than any other. No person of the Trinity ever acts independently of the others. Each person has the same attributes as are spoken of as belonging to the whole. The three persons have different but essential roles in the achievements and purposes of the whole. God is perfectly morally pure and implacably opposed to sin by His very nature.
2. God is sovereign over His creation, over the affairs of mankind, in His revelation of Himself, in redemption through His Son, and in the final judgement of all humankind.
3. The Bible, as originally given, consisting of both the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters of belief and behaviour.
4. Humankind, originally created perfect by God, has rebelled against His beneficent rule and thereby become sinful and morally guilty before Him, so that everyone is subject to His wrath and condemnation.
5. The Lord Jesus Christ, as revealed in the Bible, who has existed for all time in the Godhead, was and continues to be God's one and only Son, made incarnate by the virgin birth, truly God and truly man. He lived a sinless life and died a sacrificial death on the Cross. He rose bodily from death, providing eternal life for those who believe in Him, and now reigns over everything.
6. Sinful human beings are saved from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through repentance and trust in Christ's sacrificial death once and for all time, never to be repeated, as our substitute and representative, the only mediator between God and man.
7. Those who believe in Christ and put their trust in Him, by God's mercy are pardoned all their sins past, present and future, and are justified fully and completely before God by faith alone and not by their good works either before or after they put their trust in Him.
8. The Holy Spirit alone is able to awaken the heart of sinners to the need of a saviour, to point to Christ and to bring the seeker to faith in Him.
9. The Holy Spirit working in the heart and life of believers, makes the new life of Christ effective in them, enabling them to become more Christ-like in character and behaviour, and empowers them for witness to the world.
10. All true believers belong to the one holy and universal church, which transcends all human institutions, and is referred to in the Bible as 'the body of Christ.'
11. The Lord Jesus Christ will one Day, as He promised, return in glory to judge the world, to deliver God's condemnation and final judgement on those who have not repented and trusted in Him, and to receive the saved into the glory of a new heaven and new earth.
Four principles on which this website is based:
The Bible is our supreme authority on all matters of faith and conduct.
God will not mislead us - the Bible is clear that we are saved by grace alone through faith alone by Christ alone: but we have to work to understand the breadth and depth of His revelation and its application to our lives, with the help of His Holy Spirit. The Bible is the infallible and inerrant Word of God as originally given.
We must have a Christ-centred understanding of the Old Testament
Christ is not only the complete fulfilment of its prophecies and promises, and of its moral and ceremonial law, but also the One towards whom all its history moved and its progressive revelation pointed.
There is an intimate relationship between the Old and New Testaments
Understanding this results in a much deeper understanding of God, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and of God's ultimate plan.
The atoning Cross of Christ is central to all our understanding about God and what He has done
The Cross is the only answer to man's greatest need and is the interpreting key to understanding the whole Bible.
